Let's Talk… Communication Strategies for Contentious Conversations with: Policy-makers, Friends, Family, and Neighbors
The League of Women Voters of Thurston County (LWVTC) believes that democratic government depends upon informed and active participation. Our community and our democracy depend on our ability to communicate and govern - ourselves and our country.
Each of us can take responsibility for our own part, how each of us communicates and navigates conflict – with our family, our friends, our neighbors, co-workers and more.
The Dispute Resolution Center staff will guide us through skill-building steps to enhance capacities and better understand: when to dialogue; how to build common ground; development of more responsive strategies; and managing triggering conversations.
Retired legislators from Republican and Democratic parties will also describe how they have successfully enacted bipartisan policies using constructive communication.
We’re starting with an introductory session on how to engage in productive interaction in contentious times.
Join us for an introductory training with lively discussion, ideas and skill-building strategies to engage in effective dialogue on contentious issues. What can current lawmakers put into practice enabling effective governing?

This is not a normal time. We will miss having our Annual Ed Fund Benefit Luncheon, and we chose not to do a virtual event. But we appreciate members and supporters buying virtual ticket as a way to donate to our Education Fund.
The activities supported by this fund include:
Candidate Forums, which have been so well received this campaign season.
The Water Study Update, which has used a number of community forums for data collection and should be ready next May.
They Represent You (TRY), a contact listing of elected officials on a county, state, and national level production and distribution.
