The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Take Action

  • Local League: Contact the Thurston League to learn how you can help register voters, provide voter education, and participate in programs and studies on currently-hot public policy issues.
  • State League: Learn about state League legislative priorities and follow priority bills by signing up for the state legislative newsletter. This emailed newsletter is issued weekly during the legislative session.
  • National League: The national League issues Action Alerts about issues of urgent concern. Go to the League of Women Voters US  to learn about priority public policy issues and to take action.

A vital part of our democracy is each citizen's right to vote and that ballots are counted correctly. Elections officials adhere to strict rules in every state to ensure integrity in our elections every year.

The League is focused on responding to countless challenges to our democracy including mis- and disinformation, gerrymandering, and voter suppression. Components include:

  • The Democracy Truth Project
    To counter mis- and disinformation and advance better public understanding of the democratic and electoral processes. 
  • Expand the Franchise
    Increasing voter participation, with a focus on underrepresented populations and low-propensity voters.
  • Democracy Defense Fund
    Protecting voting rights and advancing a more equitable democracy through advocacy and voter protection efforts.
  • People Powered Fair Maps
    Leading with advocacy, public education, and organizing to create transparent, people-powered electoral maps and eliminate gerrymandering during 2021 redistricting.
