WHAT MAKES A JUST FOREST?

The Forest Resilience Division of the Washington Department of Natural Resources is hosting a series of presentations on environmental justice and our forests. A diverse range of speakers will present on topics ranging from the rights of forest workers to food access and how stakeholders can address issues of environmental inequity in the Evergreen State.

Learn more about Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act here.  The HEAL Act directs stage agencies, including DNR, to take steps to address environmental inequities that are most often felt by BIPOC and other underserved communities. All sessions are open to the public and free to attend.

Speakers:
 - Elise Rasmussen is the co-author of the HEAL Act, and also served as the manager for the Enviromental Justice Task Force. Elise currently serves as the Climate Equity Coordinator for the Washington State Department of Health.

 - Leah Wood currently serves as the Equity and Environmental Justice Consultant for the Washington State Department of Health.

 - Dr. Paul Ong is professor emeritus of urban planning, social welfare, and Asian American studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Ong has a long career spanning multiple decades in many prongs of environmental justice, with his work examining topics such as work and transportation inequities, and sustainability and equity.
